Short Description:

The course examines the Ottoman archival material of Greece. This material is varied. There is a multitude of documents of all kinds, from tapia and receipts of tax to firmania, chotzetia and others. The type of documents that include the Ottoman archives of the Greek Territory are presented in general. More emphasis is placed on the ranges that exist and outline the areas that are open to the research of a long period of our history. Its cataloging and its dissemination to the wider scientific community will greatly advance our knowledge around this time and will also contribute to the development of the Turkish branch in our country.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

The training of students in Archives, Library Science and Museology in the Ottoman archives of the Greek Territory is important for the promotion and use of the Ottoman archives in our country. The phenomenon of fragmentation of files is unfortunately very common in Greece. In this context, the analysis of the different types of sources, their classification and cataloging, is of particular importance for the study and production utilization of the richness of archives that are either scattered in distant places or are scattered, and parts of them reside in different entities. The rescue, study and exploitation of the Ottoman archives is a key objective of education, since within our archival material our cultural heritage is captured.
