Postgraduate Studies

The Ionian University Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology Postgraduate Studies’ programme is composed of two levels. While the first postgraduate level leads to a Master’s Degree, the second one leads to a Doctorate Degree. All courses, teaching and research activities, practical and laboratory training as well as all other educational or research activities required for the aforementioned receiving degrees are provided for in the relevant legislation.

Postgraduate Specialisation Diploma (1st level)

In the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology, at the Ionian University, the academic year 2018-2019 running two Postgraduate Studies (PSP) Programs titled "Management of Cultural Information" (Government Gazette 1500 /02.05.2018, issue B) and “Management of Digital Information - Information Services” (Government Gazette 1530 / 04.05.2018, issue B’)
The structure, organization and operation of PSP is governed by the provisions of the relevant laws and Ministerial Decisions. It is also in line with the decisions of the Ionian University Senate and the legislation in force.


Doctoral research (2nd level)

Students entitled to register in the 2nd cycle of postgraduate studies in order to carry out doctoral research, are those holding a Postgraduate Specialisation Diploma or a Postgraduate Degree from a Greek or a foreign University, with the exception of specific cases, provided for in Article 12 of PD 380/89 and Article 12, Par. 2(a) of Act 2083/92. For those holding Postgraduate Degrees from foreign Universities, it is necessary for them to be recognised by the NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) or other competent official government agency. The foreign language requirements are the same as those for 1st cycle candidates. All 2nd cycle of postgraduate studies candidates are required to submit an application to the Department’s Secretariat, addressed to the Special General Assembly, which decides on their admission. The duration of 2nd cycle studies may not be less than six or exceed fourteen semesters.
In the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology have been supported so far 33 doctoral dissertations and are enrolled 80 candidates.
