Manolis Gergatsoulis is a professor of Databases and Management of Metadata at the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology, Ionian University, Greece and co-leader of the Database and Information Systems Group (DBIS), Digital Libraries and Electronic Publishing Laboratory of the same Department. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science. His current research interests include Big data management, query optimization, metadata interoperability, ontologies and semantic web technologies. He was the Chair of the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology from November 2015 to November 2017. He has participated as a programme committee member in more than 100 international conferences. He has published more than 100 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings. He has supervised 3 Phd Theses and has participated in more than 20 supervising and examination committees of PhD students.
He has participated as a researcher in several international R&D projects. His research papers have more than 1000 citations.
