Short Description:

Epistemological Approach to the Theories of Analysis of the International Behavior in the Human and Natural Spaces. Types of Geographical Spaces (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Complete and Complex Geographical Spaces). Geography and Geopolitics. Methodology of Geopolitics as an analytical geographic method. The example of Corfu. Management and exploitation of cartographic material in geopolitical analysis.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

To focus on the study of historical geography using the methodological tool of geopolitical analysis using archival evidence. Understand the contemporary problems of the international phenomenon and the possibilities of its analysis by studying the sources in light of geopolitical analysis.

Syllabus:

Week #1 - #3: The science of Geography. Approach to the term and aims of Geography. The evolution of Geography. The modern science of Geography. The New Geography.

Week #4 - #6: A brief historical overview of key geographic schools: The German School of Geopolitics (F. Ratzel, R. Kjellen, K. Haushofer), The Anglo-Saxon School of Geopolitics / The Classical Geopolitics, The French School of Geopolitics. Geopolitics definitions. Thoughts on Geopolitics and Geostrategy. The fundamental elements of the separation of geopolitics and geostrategy

Week #7 - #9: Adriatic - Ionian Geopolitics. The case of Corfu. Delimiting the time, method and parameters.  A. Historical analysis and international relations in the eastern Mediterranean and the BalkansI. The countries of the region. 1. Italy 1.1. Italy in the Twilight of the 21st Century 2. Albania 2.1. The relations between Greece and Albania and the issues of Northern Epirus and the Chamidas

Week #10 - #13: Adriatic - Ionian Geopolitics. The case of Corfu. 2. Historical approach of the Italian-German forms of geopolitical actions and targets on the island of Corfu. 2.1.
