Short Description:

Within the framework of the course, the main direct and indirect archival sources of the New Hellenism, as well as the production and management of archives of post-Byzantine Hellenism (Venetian and Ottoman-occupied), are presented and examined within the framework of the legislative, administrative-executive-management and judicial function and jurisdiction and civil jurisdiction. Archives of the prefectures and memoirs. The "States" of the Ionian Islands, Samos and Crete and the establishment of "Archives". Organizations producing and managing records of the Greek State in the framework of legislative, executive-administrative-management and judicial power and jurisdiction. The records of notaries. Contents of the Greek State Archival Service. Archives relating to (new) Hellenism, which are kept in archival services outside of Greece.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

By successfully completing the course in the course the student will be able to realizes the breadth of the archival wealth of Hellenism with an emphasis on the archives of the new Hellenism and links the knowledge acquired with the archival evidence taught, which contributes to the correct documentation, description and exploiting the archival material he will encounter.

Syllabus:

Week #1: The Venetian Republic and the Venetian-occupied Greece. Legislative, executive-administrative-management, judicial function and corresponding Secretariats.

Week #2: Typology of documents and archives, administrative districts, auditing bodies, Hygiene, Burial, Grasshopper, Hospitals and Contemporary Institutions, Pawnshop. Guilds, Crete: The Duca di Candia Archive. Executive and judicial jurisdiction. Instruments of indigenous people.

Week #3: High Gate. Ottoman-held Greek space. Jurisdictions, Secretariat of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. “Endemous Synod”.

Week #4: Executive-administrative-management and judicial function. Kazas, Cadis, Common-Elders. Criterion of the Audience.

Week #5: Trade Unions. Impeccably. Societies. The eyelet of Crete. Secretariats of Metropolises, Dioceses, Parish Churches and Monasteries.

Week #6: The Archives of the Ionian Islands. Concepts-definitions. The first and second French sovereignty. Administrative Institutions and Production of Archives.

Week #7: The Russian-Turkish Rule (the Ionian State) - Administration Institutions and Archives Production.

Week #8: The British Protection. Administrative Institutions and Production of Archives.

Week #9: Visit to the General Archives of the State (GAK) of the Prefecture of Kerkyra, as a body of permanent archives management.

Week #10: The Hegemony of Sami. Legislative, executive-administrative-management function, judicial function. Hegemonic Surveying. Liability jurisdiction. Establishment and operation of the Archbishopric of the Hegemony of Samos.

Week #11: Notarials. Common Chancellors. Memories. Notaries in the Hegemony of Samos.

Week #12: The Archives of the Greek State. Public records producers. Legislative, executive function. One-member central government bodies. Administrative institutions and record production.

Week #13: Multi-member Central Governance Bodies. Administrative institutions and record production.
