The French language and culture’s undergraduate courses IV is offered to the students of the Ionian University’s Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology and is focused on the development of reading and listening comprehension skills, French grammatical structures and related vocabulary/terminology. Our aim is to offer courses that meet the students’ needs and learning objectives. As a result, the aforementioned linguistic competence levels are indicative and can be modified according to the students’ needs.
- Introduction to basic concepts and principles of terminology in French and comprehension of scientific texts related to the Department’s fields.
- Terminology through scientific texts in the fields of Archives, Library Science and Museology.
- Choosing dictionaries and web resources.
- Guidelines for academic essays.
Week #1: Revision of grammar phenomena approached during last year’s courses and application on exercises. Use of audiovisual material, in order to help students familiarize with French speech use (10-minute videos), accompanied by comprehension questions. Discussion on topics of interest. Weekly assignment for a more practical application of the theory, which shall be turned in within a deadline pre-determined by the instructor.

Week #12: Dealing with texts containing terminology, in order to approach specialized language and to comprehend written speech. Week #13: Review of the course and discussion on the course content throughout the term. Suggestions for improvement, changes and what could be approached during the next term.

The course duration is three hours and aims to introduce students to a more systematic use of French language and to approach terminology related to their studies, so that they may then familiarize with its use throughout their studies.
