Short Description:

The course approaches English grammar and syntax, aiming to help students practice in using the language as best as possible and to help them familiarize with terminology related to the related literature approached during their studies.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:
  • Approaching grammatic and syntactic phenomena of the English language
  • Help students familiarize with English in terms of speaking, writing and listening
  • Help students familiarize with turning in assignments within specific deadlines - simulation with real-life conditions of the market
  • Help student familiarize with terminology
Syllabus:

Week #1: Revision of grammar phenomena approached during last year’s courses and application on exercises. Use of audiovisual material, in order to help students familiarize with English speech use (10-minute videos), accompanied by comprehension questions. Discussion on topics of interest. Weekly assignment for a more practical application of the theory, which shall be turned in within a deadline pre-determined by the instructor.

Week #11: Dealing with texts containing terminology, in order to approach specialized language and to comprehend written speech. Use of audiovisual material, in order to help students familiarize with English speech use (10-minute videos), accompanied by comprehension questions. Weekly assignment for a more practical application of text production, which shall be turned in within a deadline pre-determined by the instructor.

Week #12: Dealing with texts containing terminology, in order to approach specialized language and to comprehend written speech. The course duration is three hours and aims to introduce students to a more systematic use of English language and to approach terminology related to their studies, so that they may then familiarize with its use throughout their studies.

Evaluation Methods:

Students’ final assessment and grading is carried out through written exams. The students are expected to apply the course’s learning material on exercises of relevant content (text-grammar-vocabulary-text production). Alternatively, students may choose to be examined through a term paper of 2,500 words (±50 words) assigned by the instructor.
