The 4th International Conference on Museum Big Data (MBD2026) will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria, 12-14 November 2026, with the Ionian University and the Museology Research Laboratory participating in its organisation, in collaboration with the Bulgrarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Mathematics and Informatics. MBD2026 brings together museum studies, cultural heritage, digital technologies, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence. Submissions remain open for a few more days for both short (4-page) and long (12-page) papers. Participation can be onsite or online. Ionian University bids farewell with great sadness to the distinguished archaeologist Konstantinos (Dino) Politis, who passed away in August 2026, leaving behind an important legacy in archaeological research and the protection of cultural heritage.

The Ionian University announces that, from September 1st, 2026, the Department of Archives, Library Science, and Museology will be renamed as the Department of Information Science, according to Government Gazette No. 4296 of August 7, 2025, Series B. The new name reflects the Department’s evolution and the expansion of its academic and research fields, while preserving its long tradition and academic excellence in the fields of Archives, Libraries, Museums and Cultural Heritage.

The academic calendar for the year 2026-2027 is published with dates on tuition, exams and holidays.
