LiSS Νέο παράθυρο, in collaboration of the Ionian University, Department of Archive and Library Sciences Νέο παράθυρο, organizes a workshop titled ‘Surveillance in Academia’ in Athens, February 23-24, 2012 at Nomiki Vivliothiki, Mavromihali 23, Athens.

The workshop theme is surveillance in academia. It covers initially two aspects of academia surveillance: firstly, privacy and surveillance of computer use in academic libraries, with an emphasis on the US PATRIOT ACT and on the social network uses in academic libraries and secondly, camera surveillance of academic areas. In this respect, we will be dealing with academic freedom and surveillance, academic activism and (covert) police surveillance internationally, university research on surveillance technologies, higher educational surveillance, academic plagiarism and surveillance, the neo-liberal university and the surveillance market and other topics. Importantly, we will speak of the fundamental philosophical, sociological and legal basis and consequences of surveillance in general.

The workshop’s proceedings will be published.
