Reinventing Inventiveness, Recreating Creativity – International Perspectives on AI and IP Law

on Wednesday, 21 April 2021, at 16.00 Greek time.

As Artificial Intelligence technologies develop and expand, they increasingly challenge established concepts of creativity and inventiveness. This development has substantial implications for intellectual property law which is founded on entrenched assumptions as to that nature of creativity and inventiveness. This webinar forms a deep dive into the challenge of designing relevant and flexible intellectual property laws that can evolve with AI enabled processes and systems.

Speakers include:

  • Professor Joshua Fairfield, Washington and Lee University (School of Law, USA), Presentation: A Speaking Profession: Bridging the Gap Between Natural and Formal Languages in Artificial Intelligence Parsing of Law
  • Associate Professor Tatiana Synodinou, University of Cyprus (Faculty of Law, Cyprus). Presentation: AI generated output as protected work in EU copyright law
  • Dr Begoña Gonzalez Otero, Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition (University of Munich, Germany). Presentation: Time to revisit software protection? The case of machine learning models under EU copyright law
  • Dr Nikos Koutras, Edith Cowan University (School of Business and Law, Australia). Presentation: Artificial Intelligence and implications on intellectual property rights ownership
  • Professor Niloufer Selvadurai, Macquarie University (Macquarie Law School, Australia). Presentation: Reinventing inventiveness: Patent protection for AI-generated inventions in the financial sector
