The module presents the evolution of the administrative structures of the Greek State over time. More specifically, the administrative bodies that composed the structures of the central and regional administration as well as the local administration during the 19th and 20th century are examined. Moreover, the procedures of administrative convergence of the territories annexed to the Greek State after its formation, and the new administrative structures that have been created are described (Ionian Islands, Thessaly, Macedonia, Epirus, islands of the Aegean Sea, Crete, Thrace). The presentation of the structure of the Army and the influences of the war in the organization of the public administration are examined. Finally, human resources management policies, and more specifically, civil servants’ tenure and the phenomenon of administrative purges are examined. Emphasis is given in the terminology connected with the structure of the Greek public administration.
The aims of the module are:
- The student’s familiarization with knowledge connected with the structure of Greek public administration over time
- The student’s familiarization with administrative terminology.
After the successful completion of their studies students will be able to know:
- The main characteristics of the structure of the Greek public administration over time
- The relative administrative terminology
