Short Description:

The Historical and technological development of computer systems. The use of  information technology in everyday life. Understanding of the Computer Numerical Systems. Binary representation of data and operations on the computer. Familiarity with computer architecture, operating systems and graphical communication environments. Familiarity with computer software and computer hardware. Developing skills related to computer use in file and program management. Computer networks - internet services.

Laboratory: Windows, Linux. File management. Presentation of selected applications. word processing, spreadsheets, presentations. Presentation of Internet applications and services. Developing applications in a programming environment.

Objectives - Learning Outcomes:

The objectives of the courses are:

  • Knowledge of the organization and development of computer systems
  • Understanding of the numerical computer systems
  • Familiarity with computer architecture
  • Communication with computer software
  • Familiarity with computer hardware
  • The development of skills related to the use of computer in file and file management programs

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to: He has knowledge of tools and techniques in the basic applications of information technology in social sciences to provide quality services. He has comprehended the basics of using computers as a tool to search for knowledge through the Internet of his applications and other available services.

Week #1: Historical technological evolution of computing systems, information technology as a science, the use of information technology in everyday life.

Week #2: The data inside the computer. Representation of the data.

Week #3: Understanding the numerical systems of computers. The binary system

Week #4: The binary system

Week #5: The octal system

Week #6: The hexadecimal system

Week #7: Operations with bits

Week #8: Familiarity with computer hardware

Week #9: Familiarity with computer software

Week #10: Computer networks

Week #11: Operating Systems

Week #12: Programming

Week #13: Internet services
